SubTasks was free from the start because I needed to learn. I needed real people using the app every day so I could figure out which features stuck, what was missing, and what the dynamic actually needed that I hadn’t thought of yet. And you all showed up and did exactly that. Every bug report, every feature request, every “hey this is broken” message helped shape what SubTasks is today. Seriously, thank you for that.
But I’m one person building this. Servers, databases, push notifications, field-level encryption of every piece of content you put into this app. It all costs money to run, and the newer features like in-app chat, photo proof validation, and multi-partner support cost even more to build. If I want SubTasks to exist next year, and the year after that, it needs revenue. This was always the plan.
You’re typing your punishment log and pet names into SubTasks. I’d rather charge you than have any reason to sell it. No ads, no data brokers. You pay for the app and it works for you.
So now there’s a paid tier called Pro. Here’s what it adds, what stays free, and what it costs.
What stays free forever
The core app stays free, and I mean actually free. A real, complete app.
Here’s what’s free, permanently:

You can use SubTasks every day without paying. It’s a real app, not a trial.
What Pro adds
Pro is for people who use SubTasks heavily and want more.
- Unlimited task validation and photo proof. Free users get one of each per week. Pro removes the limit entirely. If your Tasker rates every task completion and you submit photo proof daily, you want Pro.
- Unlimited lightning tasks. Free users get one per week. Pro means your Tasker can drop surprise tasks whenever they want.
- In-app chat. More on this below.
- Unlimited partners. Free accounts support one relationship. Pro covers all of your relationships with a single subscription. Every one of them.
- Discord Pro role. Pro badge in the SubTasks Discord.
More stuff is coming to Pro over time. Permission requests (your Taskee asks, you approve or deny, right in the app), deep analytics with full completion history, AI-powered task generation, Taskits (shareable task and reward templates), and an Item Shop with items like Skip Day, Extension Request, and Demerit Forgiveness.

This one has been the most requested feature since SubTasks launched, and it’s finally here.
Full messaging, built directly into SubTasks. Your Tasker assigns a task, you have a question about it, you ask right there instead of switching to iMessage or Discord and hoping the context carries over. Check-ins, negotiations, “hey good job today” - all of it stays inside the app where it belongs.
Everything in SubTasks is encrypted at the field level, and chat is no different. Your messages are encrypted the same way your tasks, rewards, and punishment logs are. I can’t read them. Nobody can. That was non-negotiable.

One subscription covers ALL of your relationships. If you’re a Tasker with two Taskees, or three, or five, one subscription covers every single one of them. No per-user fees.
The main competitor charges $6.99/month per person and both partners have to subscribe. That’s $13.98/month for one couple. $20.97/month for a Tasker with two Taskees. SubTasks Pro is $9.99/month, period.
If either person in a relationship has Pro, both of you get Pro features. Only one of you needs to pay.
There’s also a lifetime option. Pay once and you’re done. Nobody else in this space offers that.
The Founding Member program
If you’re reading this, you’re probably here because you’ve been using SubTasks since before Pro existed. You were here when it was free and scrappy and shipping something new every week.
That means something. So here’s the deal:
Every user who created an account before the Pro launch and has at least one task created or completed is a Founding Member. You get:
- 3 months of Pro, completely free. Full access to every Pro feature for three months, free.
- A permanent “Founding Member” badge. It stays on your profile forever, even after the free period ends.
You’ll need to opt in and enter payment info. I know that feels like a trap, but it’s how the app stores work. Cancel anytime before the three months are up and you pay nothing. The offer is live for 7 days. After that, it’s gone.
Everything you’ve built stays regardless. Tasks, history, streaks, achievements. If you don’t subscribe after three months, Pro features turn off but your data never goes anywhere.
